Casandra has been a fierce and tireless advocate for the autism community for over 15 years. As a trained kinesiologist and longtime fitness professional, Casandra was a part-time instructor and fitness coach when her two youngest sons were diagnosed with regressive autism within just a few months of each other. Work plans were put on hold as Casandra was plunged into the long-term struggle of being a special needs parent. From fighting for ABA insurance coverage, to founding support groups and being a parent coach, Casandra has been passionately fighting for her kids and kids like them. The knowledge she has gained about law, education, nutrition, medical tests, research, and survival with two autistic boys has motivated her to help families with similar struggles. With the benefit of thousands of hours of tests, workshops, and training programs and having experienced the school system’s Child Find process, IEP meetings, due process, and mediation, Casandra is a battle-hardened survivor with many firsthand lessons to share. With that experience, Casandra led advocacy and parent support programs for Autism FIRST, a northern Virginia-based behavioral health company. In addition to her role as Director of Autism at TLI, Casandra serves as a mentor for parents through The Autism Community in Action, a national non-profit.
